Featured: Meeting of Styles Comes to Chicago September 18-20

As many of you already know a big weekend of celebrating graffiti art is almost upon us in Chicago. For those of you who don’t, Meeting of Styles began in 2002 in Germany and consists of a group graffiti artists from around the world aiming “to create a forum for the international art community to communicate, assemble and exchange ideas, works and skills, but also to support intercultural exchange.” Only nine years after forming MOS they have successfully over 75 events in 16 countries across the globe.
Graffiti artists from all over the globe will be converging on Chicago. The MOS separates these artists into three groups, the East and West and of coarse the local Chi talent. Some of the artists from the East will be: Cope2, Part, Fred One, Indie and Sloan; some of the West will be represented by: Hyde, Vyal, Denz, Surge and Lucit. Local talent includes artists such as: Flash, Rome, Kato, Thor, Stef, Demon, Trixter, Nerd, Zore, Risk, and many more.
The festival begins Friday September 18, 2009 for a meet and greet at Studio 54B, 2128 S. Halsted, 7pm-12am. The kick off party will feature live art and dj’s.
Saturday, September 19, 2009 begins at the Crawford Steel Plant near Albany and Kedzie on the city’s south west side. The exact address is 3100 West 36th Place. Other walls will be worked on as well between 10 block section down Kedzie Avenue from 25th st. to 36th st. The day begins at noon and runs until 7pm.
Saturday evening is the E.S.P. (eastern, sentral, pacific) Gallery Show at Rumble Arts Center. The gallery is located at 3413 W. North Ave, and the event is from 7pm-12am. This is a Tri-Coastal Graffiti Art Showcase featuring some of the world’s most prominent graf writers. Artists for this event: East Coast (New York); Fred One, Sloan, Part, Fuzz, Poem, West Coast (San Fran, L.A., Japan); Hyde, Vyal, Denz, Shiro. Chicago; Flash, Rome, Kato, Thor, Stef, Demon, Trixter, Nerd, Chucho, Zore. This event will incorporate installations, canvas, live art, and djs/performers. The cost for the public is minimal at $5 per person.
Sunday September 20, 2009 is the wall completion day. There will be a closing BBQ and of course BombChicago will be taking tons of photos.
